Essex Wildlife TrustMartin was Education Officer for Essex Wildlife Trust where he developed a programme of environmental education activity days for schools. This programme was initially developed for school visits to Fingringhoe Wick, a coastal nature reserve and visitor centre near Colchester in Essex, but was soon taken up by staff at centres throughout the county. Martin also created Wildlife Discovery Days. These were wild, exciting, fun days for children during school holidays and weekends. He ran an extensive programme covering all school holidays and most weekends. The discovery days were unique and involved many characters played by Martin and his team of volunteers. He also ran discovery evenings for youth groups such as Cubs and Brownies. After fifteen years in this post Martin decided that it was time to move on and in May 2003 he left to launch his own business presenting science shows in schools and events. He now presents his shows to around 50,000 children in schools and another 30,000 children and adults at events each year. Martin says "I am a corporate member of Essex Wildlife Trust and still visit Fingringhoe Wick. I love to go Adder hunting and its a great place for bugs. Being on the Colne estuary its also a really good place to see wading birds such as Avocets and Curlew" You can buy Martin the Bug Man's Guide to Big Bugs at the Trust's Fingringhoe and Langdon Visitor Centres |
